INT, Usagi's Room
LUNA is resting on a chair, while USASI lies on her bed, her hands behind her head and her eyes open.
LUNA
Usagi, this is SO much better than my idea.
LUNA stretches out, and then lies down again.
USAGI
I heard cats sleep, like, sixteen hours a day. Is that true?
LUNA
I don't. I'll let other cats speak for themselves.
(beat)
Once we defeat the enemy, though? I think by then I'll have earned sixteen a day. Until then, let's make the most of what little time we have.
LUNA closes her eyes. USAGI rolls onto her side, facing away from LUNA.
USAGI
Where did you come from?
LUNA
(eyes still closed)
An alley. My brothers and sisters are probably still there, if not at a shelter.
USAGI
So you're reincarnated, like me?
LUNA
I'm pretty sure I said something to that effect last night.
USAGI
And you lived in the kingdom, with me or, I guess, who I used to be?
LUNA opens her eyes.
LUNA
Yes.
USAGI
Luna, what happened to the kingdom? You told me some weird stuff about order and chaos. . . but what about the kingdom?
LUNA waits for a moment, collecting her thoughts.
LUNA
I've already told you that one of the fragments of life, one of the sources of vital energy, made it's way to our solar system.
CUT TO:
Flashback.
In these flashback scenes, we watch LUNA'S tale unfold before our eyes. As with the scenes with ORDER and CHAOS, realism is likely not the best strategy. For these scenes, I'm imagining more of a fairly tale look-- think Lotte Reiniger's Prince Achmed with a few hints of Georges Melies. While we're at it, a bit of mood music:
We start with a scene of the Sun and the Inner Planets, ie Mercury, Venus, Earth & Moon, Mars, and Jupiter.
LUNA
From the moment it arrived, life began to flourish.
We see a bright light originate from the MOON.
LUNA
It grew stronger and wiser, and ultimately, under the guiding hand of the Source, it gave birth to a great civilization.
We see similar lights eminate from each of the worlds, though these lights pale next to that of the Moon. As Luna finishes her line, the light from the Moon envelops the entire screen. It dies down quickly, and we transition to a shot of the Sun. We pan to the right.
LUNA
A line of magnificent Kingdoms: Mercury. . .
We pan on MERCURY, a blue planet of vast oceans, snow-capped mountains, and ice castles. It's inhabitants run, swim, ski, and skate as fantastic speed. A note on the planets: while we will be able to see the curvature of each world, its surface features and inhabitants will be large enough for us to see as well-- again, realism isn't the goal here. We continue panning right, until we hit. . .
LUNA
Venus. . .
A literally Golden world. It's palaces a made of gold and silver, a mix between El Dorado, the pyramids of Eygpt, and an industrial steampunk paradise. One of these palaces is not on the surface of Venus at all, but rather in orbit of the planet. The Venusians' dress is as ornate as their palaces. We pan right. . .
LUNA
Mars. . .
A red, firey planet, where lava flows through vast artificial canals and a vast torch is fixed onto every palace. The Martians themselves seem to thrive in this environment, manipulating fire with their hands, performing fire-eating tricks, etc.. Panning. . .
LUNA
Jupiter and the Outer Worlds. . .
A vast and stormy world, where mighty trees, large enough to bear their own treehouse-like palaces, heave from the harsh winds, hurling huge bolts of lightning at one another. We're panning, we're panning. . .
LUNA
Earth, but not the Earth you know. . .
Indeed. The planet is crystalline: mountainous spires of diamond, emerald, sapphire, ruby, etc. tower above the surface, criss crossing each other. Yet there are also oceans and lush forests on this world. We zoom out, getting a full view of the planet.
LUNA
And the greatest of them all, the Moon Kingdom.
With EARTH still in the sky, the surface of the MOON comes into view. At the horizon, we see the mighty, arabesque PALACE of the MOON KINGDOM, encased in a massive glass dome. We zoom in on the PALACE.
LUNA
The Moon Kingdom, alone, was entrusted with guarding the Source. As such, it served as the ruler and protector of all other Kingdoms.
We get a closer view of the kindgom. . . A vast forest grows within the protection of the Kingdom's dome. . .Dozens of the Moon Kingdom's inhabitants skate upon a vast ice rink. . . As we move closer to the palace, we see dozens of ornate water fountains, statues of kings, queens, and warriors.
LUNA
The Source itself was passed on through the maternal line of the Moon Kingdom's royalty. For thousands of years, the source was passed from Queen to Queen. . .
We finally come up to the palace itself. At the edge of a high balcony, we see an extremely tall, beautiful female figure, QUEEN SERENITY. Standing by her side, a slightly smaller, blone haired figure, PRINCESS SERENTIY.
LUNA
. . . until the very end of the Lunar lineage, Queen Serenity and her daughter, Princess Serenity. It was an age of peace and prosperity, known as the Silver Millenium.
CUT TO:
LUNA and USAGI.
LUNA
. . . The name sounded far better in the ancient tongue.
CUT TO:
The QUEEN and PRINCESS SERENITY. A black cat, LUNA, and a white cat, ARTEMIS, walk up to the two royals from out of frame.
LUNA
This is where you come in.
Seemingly from out of the sky, a golden-haired young woman, wearing a white and gold naval-inspired dress uniform-- of a similar style to the one worn by SAILOR V-- falls out of the air, landing gracefully next to ARTEMIS. She bears a large, golden chain, which she uses as a weapon. After landing, she briefly displays her extreme prowess with the weapon, rapidly waving the chain about her body as she contorts herself with superhuman flexibility. Having displayed her skills, she assumes an extravegant defensive posture next to the princess. This warrior's name is VENUS.
LUNA
Standing ever by the Princess's side were the greatest warriors in all the Kingdoms of the solar system-- The Guardian Warriors.
VENUS is quickly joined by three other warriors, all of whom wear uniforms of similar style to VENUS. First, there is MERCURY, a blue-haired, blue-suited warrior whose movements flow like water. Then, there is MARS, raven-haired and red-suited, surrounded by dancing flames. Finally, JUPITER, as tall and majestic as a tree, from whose fingers dance tiny ribbons of lightning. These warriors, like VENUS, briefly display their skills before taking their place at the PRINCESS'S side.
LUNA
They were the sworn defenders of whosoever was destined to inherit the Source. But they were also much more than that.
We cut to a scene of the PRICESS and the GUARDIANS walking through the forest, laughing.
LUNA
They were her closest friends.
Cut to a clasroom. The PRINCESS sits at a desk, while MERCURY stands at a the front, giving a lesson.
LUNA
Her teachers.
Cut to a shot of JUPITER giving the PRINCESS instruction in an exotic martial art.
LUNA
Mentors.
Cut to a shot of the PRINCESS and MARS, sitting on oppsite sides of a large fire, their heads bowed, deep in mediation. Various objects from around the room are telekinetically leviated, hovering near the PRINCESS. MARS raises her head, admiring the PRINCESS'S progress.
LUNA
Guides.
Cut to the forest again. The PRINCESS sits on a rock, sobbing. VENUS sits next to her, trying to comfort her.
LUNA
Confidants.
CUT TO:
LUNA and USAGI.
LUNA is silent. USAGI lies on her side, facing away from LUNA. After waiting a moment, LUNA is about to lay her head down when. . .
USAGI
So which one am I? I mean, which one of the guardians?
LUNA lifts her head.
LUNA
I don't know.
Pause.
USAGI
You said that the Princess was the end of the. . . "lineage", or whatever it was called. What does that mean?
LUNA sighs.
LUNA
I hoped that somehow, you wouldn't ask. This is the part of the story I hate.
Cut to a shot of another crystalline "source" fragment drifting down-frame through the depths of deep space. The scene is so dark that the fragment initially appears only as a silhouette against a starry background.
LUNA
It was thought that Order and Chaos would continue fighting each other forever, but as eons passed, the battles stopped. At first, it seemed like they had simply grown too weak to fight each other, reduced to mere abstracts. That may well have been true.
The fragment starts to become illuminated from beneath.
LUNA
But many believed that, perhaps, the two finally found something they despised more than each other.
The fragment is now nearly fully illuminated.
LUNA
That Chaos was jealous of that energy which life alone possessed.
Darkness once again envelop the fragment-- but this time, ot comes from within.
LUNA
That Chaos seeked to corrupt life, and steal the vital force for itself.
The sun emerges from the bottom of the frame, just as the fragment becomes wholly black again.
LUNA
And that Order, disgusted by life, would not stand in Chaos' way.
The fragment drifts in front of the sun, once again becoming a black silhouette. As it does, it begins to fracture.
LUNA
Be that as it may, during the final year of the Silver Millenium, something came to our solar system.
The fragment shatters, its darkness speading, ultimately enveloping the sun with sunspots.
LUNA
Something both completely evil and completely alien to us. We didn't even have a name for it.
We pull back from the sun. From the right of the frame, Planet Mercury comes into view.
LUNA
Whatever it was, it spread to thoughout the solar system.
We watch the pristine waters of Planet Mercury become brown and murky, its snows collapse into dirty slush. Planet Venus then comes into view from the left of the frame. Within seconds, the golden planet reduces to a ball of rust.
LUNA
One by one, the great kingdoms, once thought nearly invulnerable, collapsed.
We pan 180 degrees, looking to the outer solar system. Planets Mars and Jupiter have already fallen-- Mars is no more than a giant cinder; Jupiter's mighty trees have withered, and its winds have stilled. We pan downward to reveal Planet Earth and the Moon, still unaffected.
LUNA
Until only the Earth and the Moon remained.
We zoom in on the Moon, until we arrive once again at the Moon palace.
LUNA
As troubling rumours began to emerge from Earth, Queen Serenity, in desperation, demanded the unthinkable. . .
We zoom in on the palace throneroom. The QUEEN is passionately debating with her advisors. PRINCESS SERENITY stands near the entrance to the room, with LUNA, ARTEMIS, and the GUARDIANS at her side. After a few seconds of debate, the QUEEN silences her advisors, and announces her decision.
LUNA
The Moon would sever all ties with Earth.
The advisors are horrified. The PRINCESS starts sobbing, and runs out of the room. LUNA, ARTEMIS, and the GUARDIANS run out after her. We then cut to a massive Crystal Palace. Zooming in on its throne room, we see the KING of Earth, along with his son, PRINCE ENDYMION, and court advisors. The KING recieves the news from MERCURY, the Guardian. She then bows, and flies off. The King is enraged.
LUNA
The people of Earth, abandoned in their hour of greatest need, felt betrayed.
The KING rants and raves at his his advisors, drawing his sarbe and rattling it in the air. ENDYMION storms out of the room. One of the court members, a fair, red-haired young woman named BERYL, follows him and tries to calm him, but ENDYMION doesn't respond.
LUNA
No-one felt more betrayed than the Earth prince Endymion, for he and the Princess were in love.
We cut to the earlier scene of SERENITY sobbing in the forest, with VENUS at her side.
LUNA
The Princess could not bear be separated from her love.
VENUS looks pensively at SERENITY, and makes a painful decision. She takes SERENITY'S hand and reveals her plan.
LUNA
So, she made a fateful decision.
SERENITY nods in excitement at VENUS'S plan. The two stand up, still holding hands.
LUNA
The princess would run away to Earth in secret.
SERENITY and VENUS fly off into the sky.
We cut to a huge masquerade ball held in the Crystal Palace.
LUNA
The Earthlings did their best to keep up their spirits.
ENDYMION, in a full dress suit with a cape, top hat, cane, mask, and pocket rose, stands in the middle of the ballroom, refusing to dance. He is flanked by four men, known as the GENERALS (SHITTENOU in Japanese): One with short, blonde hair, named JAEDITE; one with long blonde hair name NEPHRITE; one with long blonde hair, named ZOICITE; and finally, a man with long white hair names KUNZITE. One infers that they are ENDYMION'S equivalent to SERENITY'S GUARDIANS. BERYL, wearing a formal dress gown, cautiously approaches ENDYMION, when. . .
LUNA
But nothing could bring joy to ENDYMION, except. . .
. . . he is suddenly pulled away by a beautiful blond dancer, also wearing a mask. The two dance their way to the exit, followed by BERYL. Outside, on the top of a massive balcony, ENDYMION and the dancer come to a stop. ENDYMION moves to kiss the dancer, but she pulls away. Removing her mask and gown, she is revealed to be VENUS. She directs ENDYMION'S gaze to a dark corner. From the darkness, a woman shrouded in humble robes emerges. Removing the robes, she reveals that she is SERENITY. ENDYMION and SERENITY run up and embrace one another, while VENUS looks on ambivalently. When the PRINCE and PRINCESS finish their embrace, they turn to VENUS. SERENITY runs up and hugs VENUS. ENDYMION approaches VENUS and takes her hand in gratitude. VENUS bows, takes one last look at the happy couple, and flies off. The PRINCE and PRINCESS embrace and kiss. Panning left, we see that BERYL has been observing the whole scene. She runs off, brokenhearted, and weeps.
LUNA
It's possible to steal human life energy by force; it's possible to sculpt it into something evil and alien; possible, but intensely difficult.
An amorphous darkness surrounds BERYL. The darkness soon takes the shape of ENDYMION and SERENITY, facing one another. BERYL is captivated by the images.
LUNA
The enemy knew this. It TRICKED humans into giving their energy away without them knowing it. . .
The shadow ENDYMION turns away from the shadow SERENITY and faces BERYL. The shadow SERENITY is torn into pieces, ripped from limb to limb.
LUNA
. . . by offering them the chance to pursue that which they most wanted.
Shadow ENDYMION drifts away from BERYL. She follows. As she does so, she changes from a fair maiden into an imposing sorceress; she becomes QUEEN BERYL.
LUNA
Something they loved. . .
We follow BERYL until she reaches a group of disgruntled peasants. In this shot, the Moon is visible in the night sky. QUEEN BERYL approaches the peasants and points at the Moon, offering a convinient scapegoat to the angry men and women.
LUNA
. . . or the destruction of that which they hated. That's how a young girl was transformed into an evil insurgent named Queen Beryl. And that's how Beryl was able to turn the masses of Earth against the Moon.
QUEEN BERYL absorbs the peasants' life energy. She then walks off, followed by a mob of devoted followers. We zoom in on the Moon once again.
LUNA
Two months passed. By the time we realized the enemy's strategy, great swaths of the Earth had already fallen under its sway.
We return to the throne room of the Moon Palace. The QUEEN stands at a window, looking up to the Earth, facing away from her ADVISORS and the GUARDIANS. She gives orders to the GUARDIANS, who nod and fly off. She then turns to her advisors.
LUNA
Soon, the enemy would reach the Moon. So it was decided that since the desires of the Earthlings allowed them to be corrupted, it was their desires that needed to be addressed.
The ADVISORS gasp as LUNA finishes her line.
LUNA
The Earthlings were to be purified.
The ADVISORS recoil in shock.
We cut to Earth. Large mobs, which include JAEDITE, NEPHRITE, and ZOICITE, are now under QUEEN BERYL'S control. QUEEN BERYL, mighty staff in hand, points once again at the Moon, drawing cheers from the crowd. All their energy is then absorbed by the QUEEN.
Cut to the Earth Palace. ENDYMION stands in the throneroom, beckoned by KUNZITE to join the mob. ENDYMION lowers his head, refusing to go. KUNZITE angrily leaves. From the shadows SERENITY appears, embracing ENDYMION. Suddenly, VENUS and MERCURY storm in through the main entrance. ENDYMION pushes SERENITY back and draws his sword, but VENUS wraps her chain around it and pulls it away. MERCURY then runs past ENDYMION at incredible speed and grabs SERENITY. MARS and JUPITER emerge from the shadows behind SERENITY and grab her as well. The three GUARDIANS drag SERENITY out through a nearby window and fly toward the Moon. ENDYMION rushes after SERENITY, but it's too late. VENUS, still standing at the doorway, flies off without ENDYMION seeing her.
LUNA
With the Princess returned to the Moon, the Purification began.
The Moon flashes a bright light, which dies out after a second. ENDYMION sheilds his eyes with his cape, and proceeds outside. We then see thousands of Earthlings staring blankly into the sky, almost perfectly still.
LUNA
Within an instant, the Earthlings' minds were wiped clean.
Only QUEEN BERYL and the GENERALS remain unaffected. ENDYMION falls to his knees, and the GENERALS rush to his side. QUEEN BERYL saunters over and whispers seductively into ENDYMION's ear. ENDYMION stands up, picks up his sword, and gives a vengeful stare toward the Moon. QUEEN BERYL, standing with ENDYMION, conjures horrifying monsters to fight at their side. ENDYMION clenches his fist and shakes his head as he gazes at the monsters-- he's conflicted about fighting with these creatures, but he ultimately decides they are a neccessary evil. The camera pans right as MAMORU runs past the palace and toward a green field. He is followed by QUEEN BERYL, then the GENERALS, and then the horde of monsters.
LUNA
Prince Endymion, along with the few remaining Earthlings whose minds remained intact, joined with the enemy and launched a final attack against the Moon.
MAMORU comes upon a Jules Verne-esque spacecraft in the middle of the field. He and the GENERALS enter the craft and launch toward the Moon. QUEEN BERYL and her monsters fly off after the craft that very moment.
We cut to outer space. ENDYMION'S tiny spacecraft flies headlong into a fleet of massive spaceships, part of the Lunar Navy. The fleet move in to destory ENDYMION when they are attacked by QUEEN BERYL'S monsters. The monsters plow a path for ENDYMION'S ship through the large Moon fleet.
We pull away from the battle, until we arrive in the Throne Room of the Moon palace. VENUS is watching the battle unfold through a large window. She calls the other GUARDIANS. We pan inside the Throne Room. QUEEN SERENITY is slumped on her throne, exhausted, and is being tended to by advisors. Meanwhile, MERCURY, MARS, and JUPITER, standing near the sobbing PRINCESS, turn toward VENUS, and then toward the QUEEN.
LUNA
The Queen, exhausted from her attempt at purifying Earth, was now unable to stop the onslaught. Only the GUARDIANS stood between the Moon and the enemy.
MERCURY, MARS, and JUPITER run toward the window and fly out into space. VENUS takes one last look at the PRINCESS, and then flies off as well.
Cut to the top of the Lunar Dome. ENDYMION'S craft emerges from the top of the frame, pursued by a few remaining Lunar Ships, one of which is destoryed by monsters. The craft flies straight toward the dome until it collides. The dome shatters, and air rushes out into the vacuum. The ship, too, shatters, and ENDYMION and the GENERALS fall toward the surface, dazed.
Cut to the Lunar surface. The sudden depressurization causes trees to uproot and fly off, along with the denizens of the Moon Kingdom themselves.
Cut to ENDYMION and the GENERALS. Debris, trees, and people blow around like leaves. ENDYMION snaps out of his daze, and straightens out his body so as to fall faster. In short order, the other GENERALS recover and follow after ENDYMION. JAEDITE leads the GENERALS. We close in on him, only to watch him be frozen solid by a gust of icy wind and then be shattered to pieces by MERCURY, flying into frame from below. The very next moment, NEPHRITE flys in from the right and slits MERCURY'S throat with a dagger. Then, from bottom left, a stream of flame hits NEPHRITE, burning him to a crisp. MARS then flies out from below frame and immediately shoots another stream of fire at something off screen. ZOICITE appears, blocking the flame with a magical force field as he flies toward MARS. But just as he's about to reach her, a streak of lightning hits from the other side, killing him. As ZOICITE limply drifts off, JUPITER enters the frame, RIDING A FUCKING FLYING TREE! She jumps off the tree and joins up with MARS. Their moment of triumph is short lived, however, as a sword-bearing KUNZITE swoops into frame and slices through MARS and JUPITER in a single blow. He then free-falls, only to have a golden chain fly into frame and wrap around the sword. KUNZITE pulls on his sword, dragging VENUS into frame. VENUS slams into KUNZITE, and the two twirl through the air as they struggle aginst one another. They are in deadlock, VENUS holding back KUNZITE'S sword with her chain. . . until it shatters. KUNZITE is about to delivier the final blow when VENUS kicks him away. We follow him as he flies away and slams into a large piece of the shattered dome. Just as KUNZITE starts to get his bearings, the dome piece slams into the ground, crushing him. We pan right until we come upon VENUS, kneeling on the ground. Kunzite's sword embeds itself in the ground. . . and is followed the next moment by the bodies of MERCURY, MARS, and JUPITER slamming onto the surface. VENUS clentches her fists, trying to swallow her grief. She then turns toward the palace. We pan right to find ENDYMION and QUEEN BERYL storming through the front entrance of the palace. We pan back left to VENUS, who grabs Kunzite's Sword and runs after them.
Cut to the main hall of the Moon Palace. ENDYMION, his head reeling from both rage and a strange nebulous blackness that surrounds him, sees a horde of malevolent soldiers charging toward him. He easily cuts through the horde, making his was into the throne room. Sitting near the throne is a hideous beast. ENDYMION, blinded by rage, raises his sword to strike the creature down, when from out of frame, a bright light appears. When the light shines upon the beast, it reveals that the "beast" is actually PRINCESS SERENITY, gazing upon ENDYMION with horror, with LUNA and ARTEMIS at her side. ENDYMION'S sword fall out of his hand. He reaches for the PRINCESS, placing his hand on her cheek, but she pulls away. Looking toward the source of the light, ENDYMION sees that comes from a teardrop hanging on QUEEN SERENITY'S face. The light soon fills the room. ENDYMION looks back toward the hall, and falls on his knees. We pan back toward the hall to see the bodies of defenceless courtiers-- men, women and children alike-- slaughtered by ENDYMION. ENDYMION turns back to the PRINCESS and crawls toward her, begging forgiveness, but the PRINCESS hesitates. We pan to QUEEN BERYL, shaking her head and contorting with rage-- for all her trickery, his love of the PRINCESS has won over. Furious, she concentrates a mass of energy in her fist, and then from that shoots out a long spike toward the PRINCESS.
Cut to the PRINCESS, who recoils in horror.
Cut to QUEEN SERENITY, who reaches out to the PRINCESS.
Cut to ENDYMION, who moves in toward the PRINCESS.
Cut to the spike, as it flies out from QUEEN BERYL'S hand toward the PRINCESS. A flash of light. . .
Cut to the Princess. We pull out to reveal that ENDYMION has blocked the path of the spike with his own body.
Cut to QUEEN BERYL, who gazes with horror at what she has done. Just as she is about to pointlessly raise her hand to help, Kunzite's Sword thrusts out of her chest, right through her heart. The long spike goes limp.
Cut to SERENITY and ENDYMION. As the spike goes limp, it falls out of his body. ENDYMION falls into SERENITY'S arms. SERENITY, in turn, falls to her knees.
Cut to QUEEN BERYL. Her impaled body is heaved to the side, and VENUS emerges from the shadows, running to her PRINCESS'S side.
Cut to SERENITY, ENDYMION, and VENUS. VENUS approaches the PRINCESS, who sits upright, with the dead Earth PRINCE on her lap. She's motionless. VENUS kneels down and places a hand on the PRINCESS'S cheek. This tiny force is all it takes for the PRINCESS'S upper body to slowly tilt back, and tilt back, and tilt back, until it falls on the floor, lifeless. VENUS falls back in shock. The CATS gaze in horror. QUEEN SERENITY enters the frame, falls to her knees, and cradles her dead daughter, sobbing.
LUNA
And so, the last of the Lunar lineage, Princess Serenity. . . our Princess. . . was dead.
Cut to BERYL'S corpse. A black entity wisps out of her wound.
LUNA
Yet still, things became worse. The enemy still lived, and now sought the final destruction of life.
The black entity grows larger and larger, ever more menacing.
Cut to QUEEN SERNEITY and VENUS. VENUS, enraged, runs toward the black entity.
Cut to the Black Entity. VENUS rushes up to it, but it easily flicks her away with a shot of dark energy. She flies back toward the QUEEN.
Cut to the QUEEN. VENUS lands a few feet away, struggling as her body is taken over by dark energy. The Black Entity enters the frame. The CATS stand guard in front of their QUEEN.
LUNA
But just when all hope seemed lost. . .
The QUEEN reaches a hand out, stopping the black entity in its tracks.
LUNA
. . . the Queen, summoning the whole of her body and soul. . .
The QUEEN reaches out with her other hand. As she moves her hands, the black entity becomes distorted and compressed.
LUNA
. . . all the power that her body could contain. . .
The black entity, once a large menancing figure, is now contained entirely between QUEEN SERENITY'S hands.
LUNA
. . . to destroy the entity once and for all, and make things right once again.
We zoom in on the black entity as QUEEN SERENITY crushes it with her hands. A bright light erupts, bathing the screen in white.
LUNA
She almost succeeded.
PRINCESS SERENITY, the FOUR GUARDIANS, LUNA, ARTEMIS, and ENDYMION fade onto screen, floating in white space. VENUS, LUNA and ARTEMIS are awake, while the rest float unconscious.
LUNA
She wanted the Princess, the Guardians, me, you, to live full lives in peace, in a distant future far removed from the devastation of the Moon Kingdom. She wanted to restore life, if only to a single world. She wanted to pass the Source on to her daughter. And she wanted to destory the enemy forever.
Near the bottom of the frame, a bright crystal-- The Source-- fades into view, drifting toward the limp body of the PRINCESS. VENUS, LUNA, and ARTEMIS start to drift away from the others.
LUNA
But she couldn't. She could only seal the enemy away, long enough for life to return and thrive. And she could not give her daughter, her defenders, her friends, and her love, the peaceful life they deserved. She knew they would have to finish the battle that she alone was unable to.
The crystal joins with the PRINCESS'S body, releasing a final flash of light.
LUNA
And that's why you're here.
CUT TO:
INT, Usagi's Room
LUNA'S POV. We see USAGI, laying on her side, facing away from LUNA. She doesn't say a word.
Cut to LUNA. Her story finished, she lies down and looks out the window. The Moon, nearly full, shines in the night sky.
CUT TO:
EXT, Sidewalk, Day
FLASHBACK. YOUNG LUNA runs out of an apartment building. This is immediately after her attempt to visit Marie Baishaku. After catching her breath, LUNA notices something in the distance.
Cut to her POV. She sees a human figure standing at the edge of a tall building, looking in to Marie's apartment. The figure glows brightly, like gold. After a moment, she walks away from the edge of the building.
Cut back to YOUNG LUNA, gazing with awe at what she has witnessed.
CUT TO:
INT, Usagi's Room.
LUNA, still looking out the window, extends her antenna. The soundtrack fills with static, interrupted by the occasional irrelevant radio broadcast.
Cut to Usagi. Static still fills the background. We see that she is wide awake. . . something about LUNA'S story has stirred her in a deep way. It's not certain if the story saddened her, or frightened her.
